Kate Partington

My name is Kate Partington.   Great Britain is my home and I am looking forward to sharing with you my enthusiasm, my love for and my pride in the historical, beautiful, diverse island in which I live.

I was born in Manchester in the North of England fifty something years ago and now live in Nether Alderley in the county of Cheshire - home of many professional soccer players and semi-famous TV actors (!) - close to the historical county town of Chester which we visit on the journey across from Wales in the West to York in the East.

I am married to David (fishing, hunting, sailing, golfing, woodworking type) and mother of two fabulous grown up sons, James and Daniel; the younger now lives near Greenwich in London with his lovely partner Victoria and the elder has moved ‘over the pond’ to enjoy the delights of Vancouver in British Columbia. Our gorgeous Golden Retriever, Finn is still at home and with him I can go long rambling walks over my local hills…come British rain or shine.

I have been in education for many years – teaching English Literature/Language and Drama across the age ranges from inquisitive 9 year olds through ‘grumpy’ teenagers to aspirational University students.  I love sharing the fun and magic of discovery and I consider it a privilege to be able to do this with our travellers of Grand Circle. Your interests become my interests.  My learning becomes yours.  Another great love at home is cooking; the kitchen, baking and creating is surely the centre of a family.  I hope to introduce my Grand Circle travellers to the regional foods and British Classics that we will find along our route.  The tastes, sights, sounds, history and beauty of Great Britain are a store-cupboard waiting to be delved into – to create a memorable feast for us all to share.
